Kamala Harris’ Georgia School Speech Sparks MAGA Mockery: ‘Cringe’

Vice President Kamala Harris is being mocked by MAGA supporters after giving a speech to a group of high school students.
Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz visited Liberty County High School in Hinesville, Georgia, on Wednesday, a critical battleground state that Democrats narrowly won four years ago.
During the visit, the pair dropped in on a practice session by the school’s band, where she told students: “I was in a band when I was your age.”
An aide said the vice president had played the French horn, xylophone and kettle drums, The Associated Press reported.
“Sometimes you hit the right note, sometimes you don’t. But all the practice makes for beautiful music, and that is symbolic for everything that you all will do in you lives,” Harris said.
Following the speech, MAGA supporters rushed to mock the vice president.
“WARNING: CRINGE,” the Trump War Room X account said above a video of Harris’ speech.
Others said that Harris was speaking to the students, who were teenagers, like young children.
“She always does this. She literally talks down to people because she believes she is the smartest person in the room,” wrote one X user. “Reality is, she is probably the dumbest person in the room.”
Newsweek has contacted the Harris campaign for comment via email.
The visit is part of a strategy by the Harris-Walz campaign to make inroads in GOP strongholds and to use smaller, more intimate settings to showcase a softer side of the ticket—which is still relatively unknown by the electorate.
The campaign is also attempting to win support in the state beyond Atlanta and its suburbs, which helped deliver a victory for Joe Biden in 2020.
Harris is currently polling ahead of Trump in Georgia, according to 538’s polling tracker, which shows she is 0.2 points ahead of her opponent, having overtaken him for the second time on Wednesday.
A new Fox News poll showed that Harris was 2 points ahead of Trump in Georgia, although her lead was within the poll’s 3 point margin of error.
Harris’ campaign communications director Michael Tyler said bus tours offer an “opportunity to get to places we don’t usually go (and) make sure we’re competing in all communities.”
Harris and Walz also stopped at Sandfly, a barbecue restaurant outside Savannah.
Their Georgia bus tour will culminate in a rally in Savannah on Thursday night.
Trump’s running mate JD Vance visited Georgia last week, where he struggled to make conversation with employees while buying doughnuts and one worker asked to be kept off camera.
During an NBC interview Tuesday, Vance said that he felt terrible for the worker.
“We walked in, and there’s 20 Secret Service agents, and there’s 15 cameras, and she clearly had not been properly warned, and she was terrified, right? I just felt awful for her,” Vance said.
